Finally the day of love has arrived. It’s Valentine’s Day and brands have been capitalizing on the day with their whole heart. Most of them are also playing cupid for their single fans. Hike, India’s very own free cross-platform messaging app from Bharti Softbank is out with ‘Lovelock’ – a Valentine’s Day game for singles to find love. Hike will sponsor a yacht ride accompanied by a romantic dinner for the winning couple!
Lovelock works like this – Users need to ‘lock’ 3 hearts and invite their close friends to participate in the game, so they get a chance to lock more hearts. The more the number of people they secretly ‘lock’, the higher are their chances of becoming a match and conversing with them on hike messenger.
Once you login with Facebook at the Lovelock contest website, you can either choose from the many profiles listed below or select your friends from Facebook. Lovelock displays pictures with name and age; click on three to lock them. Additionally, there is an option with which you can invite your friends from Facebook to try out Lovelock.
After you’ve locked hearts, the game requires you to verify your hike number if you are a user. Else, it asks for your mobile number to send you a download link for hike.
The game says it sends a notification to people who have been lovelocked. If they like it too, it becomes a match that is disclosed on hike where the two can take it further via chatting on the messaging app. I tried lovelocking at my end with some of my Facebook friends, but they didn’t receive any notifications. It is unclear how the game works from here on.
Hiking up its user numbers
The game’s anonymous way to connect with singles is something that might be appeal to the youth today. Besides, being in line with hike’s tagline of keeping close friends close, this Valentine’s day campaign is also a smart one. With LoveLock, the messaging app has not only created a fun platform for the youth to find love this season but also encouraged more groups of friends to adopt hike.
Launched in December 2012, the app is now handling almost a billion messages a month. It had crossed 5 million users in just 4 months of being launched but latest user numbers are not known.
And because love is not just about celebrating it on one day, Hike will be sponsoring many more romantic dates until the end of the month of love. So have you ‘lovelocked’ yet?
